What happens after graduation?

There are a variety of ways to continue after your psychology degree. We try to divide the areas:

Teaching and research: Here you have the opportunity to pass on your knowledge as a research assistant, doctoral student, lecturer or professor. This at universities, universities of applied sciences or research institutes.

Clinical / Health / Social

Psychotherapy: There is of course the probably best known direction, the psychotherapeutic direction. Under the following link, you will find the list of the FOPH accredited training courses in psychotherapy in Switzerland.

Neuropsychology: on the same page as you find the psychotherapy continuing education programs, you will also find the accredited continuing education programs in neuropsychology.

Psychological Emergency Assistance: Here, too, the SBAP offers in-house training that can lead to a specialist title. The training is accredited by NNPN (National Network of Psychological Emergency Assistance). You can find more about continuing education here.

Child and adolescent psychology: This field deals with the development, experience and behavior of children and adolescents. You can find out more here.

Gerontopsychology: Gerontopsychology is all about age and aging. Info can be found here.

Clinical Psychology: Here we look at disorders and disease patterns. A detailed description can be found here.

Health psychology: Health psychology encompasses the scientific and practical contribution of psychology to the improvement and maintenance of health. It contributes to the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of disease. You can find more information here.

Social sphere of activity

Coaching trainings: Coaching is also a popular direction. Here, there are very many opportunities for further training. Since "coaching" is not a protected term and there is therefore no state-recognized training, it is difficult to find your way around the coaching landscape. There is also no central site where you can find all existing coaching trainings. Here you have to search for yourself and find a suitable training for you.

One possibility is our in-house modular coaching training of the SBAP. At the SBAP you also have the opportunity to obtain a specialist title in coaching after completing this further training. You can find more information about the training here.

Continuing education in vocational, academic and career counseling: Here you have various continuing education options, such as an MAS in vocational, academic and career counseling from the ZHAW, or the FHNW.

School psychology: School psychologists assess school children and adolescents and intervene in cases of behavioral problems and poor performance. You can find more information here.

Legal psychology: Legal psychologists work with judicial and law enforcement agencies. You can find everything about legal psychology here.

Sports psychology: support and counseling of athletes in the mental area. You can find more information here.

Traffic psychology: behavior and experience of people in traffic and conducting traffic psychological aptitude tests. You can find more information here.

Economic sector

Industrial and Organizational Psychology: Works with individuals, groups or organizations in a professional context in the private sector, in public administration and in the non-profit sector. Advises on the design of work processes, acts as a consultant and accompanies personnel and organizational development processes. More information can be found here.

Business Psychology: On the one hand, the functions and effects of modern business psychology on business activities in companies are taught, and on the other hand, its effects on people as customers, business partners and employees. You can find more information here.

Advertising psychology: As an advertising psychologist, you will probably work in market research institutes, advertising agencies, opinion research institutes or in business enterprises. Among other things, you study opinion polls, research on subjective perceptions of products and services, consumer judgments and buying behavior. You can find more information here.

Media psychology: Media psychology is a branch of psychology that studies behavior and the use of media. The areas of media use and media effects play a central role. The media psychology program provides expertise in media literacy and you will be able to observe, analyze and evaluate the connection between media and psyche (i.e. human behavior and action). You can find more information here.

MAS (Master of Advanced Studies): Another popular continuing education option is to complete an MAS. This takes about 2-5 years (depending on the MAS) and can be completed at various universities and institutes.
Below are some of the courses offered by various universities:
MAS and CAS (Certificate of Advanced Studies of the University of Zurich)
MAS and CAS of the ZHAW
MAS and CAS of the FHNW

You can find a general overview of all training and further education opportunities as a psychologist on the Berufsberatung.ch website.
